A study from the University of Rome found that 58 percent of people watching a 3D movie reported motion sickness. The author suggested that it was from a disconnect between the visual cues being supplied by the brain to indicate the body was in motion and those provided by proprioception (our awareness of the separate and distinct movement of our muscles and body) and our vestibular system, which gives us our sense of balance. Because only our eyes are being deceived and the other two systems that are designed to tell the brain it is moving are not, the brain must send out some sort of signal that makes us want to vomit as punishment.
